What's happening, what just happened, what's coming

The Elks donated a popcorn machine to the Legion. We hold our Meat Draw there every week, and when they needed a new machine we stepped forward. The Legion gave us a nice Certificate of Appreciation. Photo here.

MEAT DRAWS AT THE LEGION LOUNGE EVERY FRIDAY - The Elks have a Meat Draw .  Every Friday starting at 5:30, come join us for fun and fellowship, and a chance to win good meat! There's 8 draws, a dollar a ticket, for a good variety of meat supplied by Fine Foods. There's bonus draws, a Teddy Bear Draw and a 50/50 draw.

Barbecue Catering - We had a great year! We will be doing it again in 2020! Call the Elks for your barbecue catering needs! 306-692-7474. We now have a grill for pancake breakfasts. Roy Champion makes a radio announcement in the spring, offering the Lodge's service to cater barbecues in and around Moose Jaw. We supply labour, food, etc for any organization or party that books us. We served lots of food last summer, and raised a lot of funds doing it! We're looking forward to doing the same this year, and we'll probably be busier!

15 Wing Air Show Concession Stand - We did an excellent job at 15 Wing (CFB Moose Jaw) at their annual Show and Shine to support families of service people. It was held on July 15th, 2018. This year we will have the Elks Concession Stand on both days of the Air Show, July 6th and 7th. Sales are substantial,  and help us continue our good work in the community. To all volunteers a sincere thank you!

Backyard Barbecue Raffle - We have an annual raffle for a Backyard Barbecue for up to 12 people. Tickets are $5.00. The draw is held at our regular May meeting.  The 2019 WINNER is Rick Bjorge. Congratulations!

RADIOTHON - We donated $2,000.00 to the CHAB Radiothon to support the Wigmore Hospital. The Radiothon was a huge success, doubling its goal of $150,000.00.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITY - We donated $1,000.00 in May toward providing a place for families to stay near hospitals where children are receiving treatment.

SPEECH AND HEARING MONTH - May is Speech and Hearing Month. The Moose Jaw Elks Lodge No. 7 supports the initiative.

CHILI CHALLENGE - WE HELD OUR FOURTH ANNUAL! IT WAS ON SUNDAY,  APRIL 28, 2019!  Our Chili Cooking Contest at the Legion Hall on Sunday, April 28 was a big success! We had 11 entries, attendance of about 50, a successful Silent Auction, 50/50 Draw and Raffles. Attendance was great despite the snowstorm. We have made this an Annual Event. Photos and coverage here.

Raffle Ticket Sales - We are selling raffle tickets at Superstore, Safeway and the Co-op Food Store in the next few months to support the Provincial Elks Charity Appeal Raffle. Funds raised will go to the Elks and Royal Purple National Fund for Children. The main draw will be made at the Provincial Conference here in Moose Jaw on June 11, 2019. If you can help sell tickets, please call Chris at 306-693-4139.

Annual General Meeting - was held in March. Executive elections happened. The Budget was presented and voted on. Matters of great and lasting importance were discussed.

Soccer Balls Donation - We donate soccerballs in September! The Elks donated 10 soccer balls to the Moose Jaw Soccer Association. Photos are on the Donations page. This is an arrangement where we will donate soccer balls as needed, when requested.

Walkathon - The Provincial Elks Association holds a Walkathon every year in a community in Saskatchewan. It was here in 2013. Come on out for a nice walk! Several of our members are going. Raffle tickets are for sale soon; grand prize is a quad or $7,500.00! Tickets will be available from members or at Flattop Automotive. Proceeds support SPARC, the children's hearing centre in Saskatoon.

Elks Homes - The Sask. Elks Association owns and operates 135 seniors' apartments in nine communities across the province, including Moose Jaw. Our Lodge manages the homes here.

Caroline's Carts - Our National Office in Regina entered a partnership with Safeway and Save-On Foods (which has stores in BC and Alberta) to place the carts in grocery stores across the country.  Locally we went a step further and partnered with the Co-op and Superstore as well. The three stores will have one cart in each store soon. Caroline's Cart ( www.carolinescart.com ) is a shopping cart designed for special needs individuals and their caregivers. It has six wheels for stability and tipover prevention, front and rear brakes for easy loading and unloading, a seat that can accommodate people weighing 35 to 250 lbs, and a 5-point safety harness seatbelt. It provides a caregiver a viable option to assist in transporting a special needs individual through a store while shopping, without the difficult task of having to maneuver a wheelchair and traditional shopping cart at the same time. There's photos on the Donations page.

Festival of Trees - We entered a decorated tree in 2018, which was auctioned off for $2,200.00. See the picture here. Funds were donated to the Children's Ward at the hospital.

Provincial Conference - The Sask. Elks Association Conference will be here in Moose Jaw in June.  All members are welcome to attend.

Park Art Concession - July 1st,
we have a concession stand in Crescent Park in front of the Art Museum during Park Art. Photos of the 2015 stand are on the Fundraising Fun page. This is a major FUNdraiser for us, and we need all the volunteer help we can get! Family and friends are WELCOME! Contact Sam Morrison.
